Vegetable Garden Tips
Assure Pure Country Freshness
Here you'll find vegetable garden tips and information needed to assure pure country freshness, whether growing vegetables in small containers on a porch or balcony or dreaming of a garden the size of a
small plot farm.
We'll help you get started as quickly as possible.
Vegetable Garden Plans Need Not Be Complicated
Your vegetable garden plans don't really have to be complicated. Without ever reading a garden book, you could easily go to your
local garden center and buy a bunch of seeds, some fertilizer, some
manure, and a bale or two of peat moss. Then, choosing the sunniest
spot in your garden, you could spade up the soil, cover it with peat moss
and manure, and add fertilizer. After working the manure, peat,
and fertilizer into the soil you could then begin to plant-simply by following the instructions on the various seed packages for planting,
thinning, and spacing in rows.
Billions of pounds of beautiful vegetables have been grown in just this way by millions of gardeners, using a marriage of trial-and-error
and common sense. These two qualities can go a long, long way. We hope our vegetable garden tips will only complement your basic horse
sense by helping you avoid some pitfalls, obtaining some good, practical knowledge, and spicing up your gardening experience.
Avoid Vegetable Garden Problems
Most gardeners succeed more than they fail by sticking to one key gardening principal. Grow vegetables under the right
conditions and not under the wrong ones.
We'll try to bring to attention common 'beginner's mistakes' in our individual vegetable pages, as well as pointing out some of
the 'spoilers' shared by other gardeners to help you avoid the most frequent vegetable garden problems.
Working With Nature
Gardening books usually have vegetable garden tips that
stress how certain plants can't be grown in your climate. For the most part,
this advice is accurate, but I know too many determined gardeners who get a lot of satisfaction in growing what 'can't be grown' !
If your interest in the plant is strong enough, you can grow it-even if you have to create a special climate around it.
We hope to include tips on how to alter unfavorable environments; how to work with nature's quirks and tricks; and how to march
to nature's natural beat.
