Country Rustic interior decor has been growing in popularity in recent years.
Check out the rustic barn wood our son, Adam, installed in the entertainment center he built for us. The antler also puts this vignette in the 'rustic' category.
The warmth, charm and simplicity of this style is appealing. It uses a lot of natural materials like wood and stone. Natural textures are important when you are going for a rustic look.
Start with wood paneling on the walls or neutral earth tones with wood trim. Stonework around a fireplace or a coffee table with a stone top makes a nice touch.
Choose simple lamps with natural themes. Lamp shades with wildlife silhouettes or pressed leaves fit rustic home decorating perfectly.
If you really want to go all out, hang an antler chandelier over the dining table, though this is certainly not necessary to attain a rustic look.
These cupboards are an example of rustic knotty pine in our country home.
Wood or stone floors work very well for this style. Choose some that are simple and not overly shiny. Knots in the wood adds a lot of rustic charm.
Knotty pine is an obvious choice, as are many of the darker woods if you don't like light floors. Flagstone or slate also works well, especially in an entrance area, kitchen or bathroom.
When it comes to your furniture, you want to keep the lines simple. Upholster it in durable fabrics or coverings like denim, leather, chambray or canvas. Solid colors or patterns that can be found on Navaho blankets make good choices.
Wooden chairs are perfect...just soften them with cushions in neutral or natural colors. Skip the floral prints unless you are using small calico prints.
Add a hall tree or pegs on the wall to hang coats on when you come in from outdoors. A mirror framed with twigs makes an excellent decoration. Southwestern colors are appropriate accents. Keep everything subtle with simple design.
Decorate with quilts, old trunks, and distressed furniture. Hang woven wreaths on the wall along with tarnished or distressed treasures from the flea market.
A wooden bowl with pine cones and a candle makes a rustic statement in our home. Make this easy pine cone centerpiece yourself!
Set out a bowl on the end table with apples or pine cones in it.
Find some posters of traditional livestock paintings and hang them on the wall in old frames.
Vintage fabrics add a nice touch.
Galvanized pots make attractive vases to hold interesting twigs or blossoming branches of quince in the spring. Use a big galvanized tub to hold the kids' toys or other small items that need a home.
Adding Rustic Interior Decor to your home is fun and easy. I didn't even include all the photo examples of this decorating style from our our main floor on this page...I guess we love the rustic look!

In the kitchen, use open shelves, plate racks and stoneware pots.
I store dry foods in antique canning jars.
Store staples in glass canning jars or earthenware jugs.
Use copper or cast iron cookware and display them openly.
A butcher block adds a nice touch and gives you a great work surface. Choose dishes that are plain and heavy.
In the bathroom, use soft lighting and antique style cabinetry. Plain white towels work best. Hang them on wooden or wrought iron towel bars.
Here my wire egg basket holds real eggs, but you can fill them with bath items or ceramic eggs if you prefer.
Wire baskets work great for holding bath items. Wire egg baskets are excellent for this. You can also use these around the house to decorate. Fill them with ceramic eggs like farmers use to encourage their hens to lay in the nest boxes.
A claw foot tub works well as does a pedestal sink.
