Western Wear is Preferred By the Montana ManWestern Wear is Essential for Country Comfort![]() The Vintage Montana Man looked something like this cowboy, who is outfitted in the essential western wear of his time...about 1888 in
this photo entitled, "The Cowboy", by John C.H. Graybill.
The Vintage Cowboy CostumeThe Montana Man lived in this cowboy costume and it served all purposes; riding, fencing, roping, dining, poker playing...you get it. It was pretty much all he had. So not much has changed! Montana people who's livelihood is maintained by their work in the saddle, on a fence line, in the corral or at the back end of a cow still have a few garments that suit all of those needs. Practicality is the first criteria met, with comfort coming in a close second. Blue jeans, cotton shirts, cowboy hat and boots are the basic four essentials every cowboy needs. In 1888 and in the 21st century. Of course, the cowboy is required to add work gloves to his ensemble and a bandana around his neck. A rope affixed to his saddle was a vital tool and the chaps over his legs protected him from weather and brush. Every piece of his western wear had a specific purpose, fashion not being one of them. That is where things HAVE changed. Cowboys and cowgirls now have need for the same basic items, but the styles, colors and patterns are anything but primitive. Fashion has hit the country closet and it is admired around the world.
