Splashy Flower Border Along a Fence

Unleash a full palette of colors in a splashy flower border
mixing different heights and petal shapes.

Summer is the season of some of the brightest colors in the garden. Summer-blooming flowers offer an incomparable range of bright yellows, reds, and blues.

This summer border adds flaming color to a post-and-rail fence. Although borders usually include larger plants in the background, that is not a hard and fast rule. Here, you see plants of various heights occupying space along the fence-line.

Strive For Continuous Blooming Flowers For Non-Stop Summer Color

A sun-loving summer border offers an astounding array of brilliant flower colors that are unique among seasonal plantings. Best of all, this border provides a continuous blooming show of color all through the summer months. With careful planning, this can be easily achieved

Flowers Shown in the Photo Above
In Bloom Hollyhock Yarrow Clematis Lily
Old Fashioned Pink Perennial Yellow "Jackmani" Asiatic⁄Orange
Not in Bloom Delphinium Cosmos Sedum Rose
"Midnight Blue" "Gigantia"⁄Mixed "Autumn Joy" "Hansa"

The plants currently blooming in this flower border will last for a couple of weeks. When they are fading and looking a bit straggly, the next wave of color will come in with the Delphinium, Cosmos, Sedum and Rose. In another area of the garden not shown here, yet more varieties of plants will offer their colors for our enjoyment.

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning. ~Lydia M. Child
