Dogs and Cats Forever
On Country Farms!

Dogs and Cats forever have been the most popular pets in the country. Country Farm and ranch families are included with those who love these animals and hold them with highest esteem.

Dogs and Cats become part of the family and in most cases, are the only animals that are allowed to reside in the home.

Dogs and Cats Together
With Farm Families

Dogs and cats together maintain a working relationship with their Farm and Ranch families as well as being their consummate companion.
Canines take on the role of watch dog and help with rounding up cattle or sheep.

A real country living reality is the presence of mice. Cats are called on to help control the population of this pesky rodent for the good health of the people and other animals existing here.

While the employment of these hard-working companions is necessary from a practical standpoint for country folks, having the friendship of dogs and cats forever has been something unmatched by any other pleasure on earth.

Are Dogs Better Than Cats?

This is a common question that has been debated in our own household over the years. From a working perspective, each species represents itself well, though the dog advocates in the family might give the edge to the canine.

On the other hand, our oldest daughter thinks there is nothing better than curling up in front of the wood stove with a favorite feline. So in the cuddly category, the feline might come out on top!

So, are dogs better than cats?
The world may never know!

Are Cats Smarter Than Dogs?

Maybe our cats are a little more intelligent simply because they don't do what we ask them to! They do whatever they want and get away with it...that seems pretty smart to me.

In reality though, it is probably due more to the fact that our cats don't seem to feel the need to please us with obedience, where our dogs surely do. Cats on our ranch are more the, 'every man for himself' type...if it feels good, they do it...no matter how upset I get when they use my flower gardens as their litter box.

These observations are just case studies in our own little laboratory. Dogs and cats differ in personality just as much as people do. Someone out there, I'm sure, has a cat that LOVES to please it's human companion, right?

Our Cats and Dogs Get Along

Despite their differences, our cats and dogs get along well here on the ranch. They don't seem to worry about who is more important to us, who is better looking or more intelligent. Our dogs and cats forever are living and working together...or just minding their own business.

Growing up in the city, I had never heard of dogs and cats living among each other in mostly perfect harmony. I guess this is just another normal part of life in the country. Humans, dogs and cats co-exist with a common goal; to get the job done and have enough to eat. Oh, and receiving a little scratch behind the ear now and then is nice too...at least that's what I'm told.
