Cowboy Drawings
I am going to guess that just about every country kid has dabbled in cowboy drawings at one point or another in his/her youth. Our brood was no different except that Baylee continues to illustrate in an assortment of artistic forms even as an adult. She is in college to become a Graphic Designer at this time, so art has now become part of her school activities as well as her play! We love it when she gets back to her roots and finds ways to put forth her cowboy drawings. Baylee as a Senior in high school (2006)
and Wade's saddle horse, Doc One of Baylee's Cowboy ComicsIn one of her graphic design classes, Baylee's assignment was to come up with a cartoon drawing of a personal event. The following is one of her cowboy comics which sums up a memorable trail ride on our ranch back in about third grade. Baylee's horse just didn't want to get moving so her older brother, Dylan, rode up beside to lend a hand. He honestly was just trying to get the horse moving...well, he got it moving all right. The last frame shows what was seen by the other riders as Baylee's horse started to bolt...before Baylee was quite ready. ![]() I think she got an A on her cowboy comic.
Ace Reid's Cowboy Cartoons
Wade, my husband, enjoyed reading the Ace Reid cowboy cartoons when he was a child. In fact, it was really the only reading he would set time aside for and he couldn't understand why the teachers wouldn't allow him to do a book report on those. He figured it was reading, just the same, and it should count for something! If you ever get a chance, look for an old Ace Reid "Cowpokes" comic book. His depictions are funny, yet very much a real view into the life of a cowboy. As cowboys ourselves (or cowgirls), we don't mind finding the humor in the way we might act or the sticky situations that arise all too frequently on the ranch. After all, folks are laughing WITH us and not AT us, right? |
