Country Wedding Cakes
Country wedding cakes both serve as the traditional dessert and usually are an added reflection of the wedding theme and color scheme. Not only do the bride and groom tie the knot; butter, sugar and flour come together to create one of the most anticipated unveilings of a wedding. The cake! A country wedding cake can also suggest the personality of the wedding couple. Choosing the right cake provides another opportunity for the bride and groom to express themselves.
Classic white contrasted by colorful flowers...elegant!
Note: many couples are choosing to use the very sleek fondant icing instead of the usual butter cream. Keep in mind that fondant is more expensive and some people do not like its taste as well as traditional icings. Request a taste test and see what you think! Simple Wedding Cakes
My idea of a perfect country wedding cake can be summed up in one word...Simple. Maybe that is just my opinion, but the words 'country' and 'simple' go together like boots and spurs! more often than not! Simple wedding cakes don't mean dull either. Think of these words when envisioning your cake:
You can also think of things from the country: flowers, birds, butterflies, etc.

Ideas For Wedding Cake ~ Don't forget the Flavor! The first thing to consider when choosing your wedding cake is how it looks. Next, focus on the taste! Even the most beautiful cake can taste bad and you don't want that!
If you can, set aside some time to taste-test cakes at different bakeries. Most bakers are willing to do this to get your business. Ask to try all of the different flavors you have been thinking about and any possible fillings and icings. If you don't care for the taste of fondant, but want the smooth look for your country wedding cake, ask the bakery if they can accomplish a sleek look with traditional butter cream. I do this all the time and it looks great. Hint for those making their own cake: I dip my frosting knife in warm water repeatedly and 'work' the icing until it is smooth. Remember that there is no longer a pressing rule that the cake must be white. You might prefer a spice cake, chocolate cake or lemon, for example. The icing need not be white either. If I were planning my wedding today, I would choose a robin's egg blue! 26+ years ago (when I got married), that would have raised a few eyebrows! Country Wedding Cake ToppersAfter you get the wedding cake baked and frosted...that is, if you have done that yourself...it is time to top it off. I apologize for the pun:) Crown those yummy layers with a fitting topper that puts forth your personality. There is so much variety available these days that the sky is the limit! Some country wedding cake toppers are pretty, others playful. There is definitely one that says 'you'. The 'Western Embrace' cake topper (right margin) has the bride in cowboy boots and the groom in a cowboy hat; perfect for a country western theme. If you are a fun loving country couple, the 'Lasso Love' cake topper set (right margin) might be the one for your bash. Don't forget that using natural elements to top your cake ALWAYS make a country statement...and they are really cheap too...especially if you look in your own backyard. For example, my niece, Heidi, went outside literally an hour before guests arrived and picked the blooms from native yucca plants. Yucca blooms are a very pale green color with spikey petals that point upward. She placed them around the base of the tiers and then made a 'crown' by filling the entire top with the pointed, faintly green flowers. It was so simple, yet she made it look breath-taking! My personal taste would be to go with the nature, but it's your wedding! Have fun with your country wedding cake and have it tell a tale about you and your significant other. And no matter what cake you choose, you should absolutely adore it. Don't let other people persuade you into something ~ just choose the cake that you love, and it will be a reflection of you. Most people go away considering the cake to be among the highlights of any wedding. Give it some thought and yours will be one of the jewels of that special day.
