The Buckskin Horse
The Buckskin horse is named in reference to it's color that resembles shades of tanned deer skin. Buckskin horses are thought to have originated from the Spanish horse, Sorraia, which is an ancestor to the wild horses of southern Iberia. Our young buckskin at age 1 year~
starting to lose his rough, winter hair. Colors of Horses ~ Each One Unique
The colors of horses are very important to their owners. A brown or black main, tail and legs should be present on a true colored Buckskin with dark points on the nose and eye area as well. His coat should be the color of tanned deer hide/skin, but can vary from yellow to dark gold. This breed has always been considered a flashy colored horse for showing. Wade halter breaks our young Buckskin.
For Breeds of Horse ~ Buckskins are One of the Toughest
Actually, the Buckskin horse is not just that because of color. This breed of horse is noted for many qualities and strengths that aren't possessed by other types of horses. Their color is only a hint of the superior genetic heritage they hold. This horse has stamina and determination, which is perfectly suited to work on the ranch. They have harder feet and better bone
structure than many other horses as well, which make weak legs a rarity for the Buckskin breed.
"You can't kill a buckskin", according to the old cowboys who rode
them for their hardiness.

The Buckskin has always been one of my husband's favorite types of horses. Since he was a small child, he dreamed of training and riding one of his very own. Just looking at this uniquely colored horse gives a clue as to why a young cowboy would want one.
