Baby Kitties Are a Sure Sign of Spring
in the Country!

Just about every spring, we have a batch of baby kitties taking up residence in our home. Normally, there are no cats allowed inside, but our girls insist that a mama and her babies deserve the royal treatment...so indoors they come.

We have a special 'maternity box' that has housed more batches of kittens than can possibly be tallied.

This is the smallest litter of baby kitties that have ever grown up in our farmhouse. It's amazing though, how three kittens can seemingly be everywhere we walk or sit. You have to be careful in our home this time of year!

Black and white kittens are striking as they display complete opposite shades of color and they are probably the most common bi-colored cats around.

We are still searching for a name to give this little girl who sports the 'tuxedo' markings with white on her paws, throat and stomach. Our daughter would like to come up with something that is similar to 'Sylvester' (Looney Tunes) or 'Tennessee' (as in Tennessee Tuxedo...remember him?), but more feminine. Any ideas?

Black kittens will grow up to be familiar symbols of Halloween and also are marked with a reputation for bestowing bad luck on a person after crossing their path.

Of course, black kittens aren't evil. All baby kitties are sweet and innocent~full of curiosity which can lead to mischief!

Our black kitten loves my laptop keyboard and can't resist walking on it while I am trying to work. Needless to say, I haven't been getting much accomplished these days!

This little guy is the only male in this litter of three. Tabby kittens appear to have makeup on with black lining each of the eyes. The black nose shows starkly against their white muzzle and stripes mark the cheeks and forehead.

All baby kitties are cute, but Tabby kittens are popular favorites partly because of their conspicuous markings.

I am admittedly more of a dog person, but having baby kittens in the house is just as enjoyable for me as it is for our girls. They entertain us with playful antics and their curiosity gets them into some amusing predicaments.

Over the years, having baby kitties grow up in our home has been a highlight of the springtime escapades on the ranch. We look forward to housing many more unique personalities wrapped up in fuzzy, little packages.
